Why is LASIK surgery performed?

The LASIK surgery is performed to correct vision problems like Myopia (Nearsightedness), Hyperopia (Farsightedness) and Astigmatism.

How much time is taken in performing LASIK surgery?

LASIK surgery usually takes 15-20 minutes for each eye and all depends on the vision problem you are having.

Are Laser LASIK procedures safe?

LASIK procedures are very safe. These procedures are also US -FDA approved certification, which means they have been given safety clearance for Human Eyes. However, like any other surgical procedure it can have some complications which are extremely rare if a proper screening check is done prior to the procedure.

Is LASIK safe?

LASIK and other refractive surgeries that are done are approved by both national and international regulatory bodies after many phases of clinical trials like FDA, EU etc. Though a pre-lasik workup is required to check safety in all the candidates of LASIK/CLEAR/PRK surgeries, the doctor finally decides the type of procedure fit for the patient.

How long does LASIK recovery take?

Typically one week to one month depending upon the type of procedure. Flap based procedures heal quickly with faster recovery, but flapless procedures, though considered safer, take longer to recover. All in all, a month is what most people need to recover and get off maximum medications.

What are the risks of LASIK surgery?

The risks of any significant aftermath is minimal after any refractive surgery. A thorough pre lasik workup is essential to rule out any risks, your doctor will evaluate all your reports and give you the best possible advice. Dry eyes are one of the most common problems faced by people after any eye surgery but it's minimal. Only 10% of patients usually have significant dry eyes that need eye drops for 3 months.
